Erick Antezana Ontologist/Senior Scientist at Bayer Crop Science
Gent, Flanders, Belgium
Research description
My work is focused on the application of Semantic Web technologies for knowledge management and terminology management in the life sciences. I am particularly interested in the area of bio-ontology engineering and biological knowledge representation. My research on applying semantic web technologies in the systems biology domain resulted in the creation of various biological knowledge bases, including BioGateway and the Cell Cycle Ontology, as well as a new approach: Semantic Systems Biology. I have also developed several software packages (e.g. ONTO-perl) to integrate and manipulate bio-ontologies. I have been invited to several meetings as keynote speaker or expert consultant in the area of biological knowledge management in the life sciences. I have served as reviewer for several journals (e.g. Bioinformatics/Oxford and Briefings in Bioinformatics) as well as for public funded projects (e.g. EU).
Currently, I am working on Master Data Management and Data Governance for supporting R&D activities in agricultural applications.
